Georgetown

Located where the Waccamaw, Pee Dee and Sampit river meet to create the goregous waters of the Winyah Bay, Georgetown, is the area’s largest port and one of the oldest cities in South Carolina. As you might image from a town founded in 1729, there is plenty of interesting historical sites to explore here, as well as modern attractions like shopping, restaurants, museums and more.

Whether you’re exploring downtown and the bustling area along Front Street or strolling along the Georgetown Harborwalk to enjoy gorgeous waterfront views, you’re sure to enjoy you’re time here.

The southern charm is plentiful at quaint, yet delicious eateries like The River Room, The Old Fish House, Aunny’s Country Kitchen and more.

Pay homage to an era of enormous plantations — the area surrounding Georgetown once produced a third of the rice in the U.S. — at attractions such as the Rice Museum and nearby Hobcaw Barony and Hopsewee Plantation.

You can also check out places such as the Kaminski House and the South Carolina Maritime Museum or find hidden treasures at unique art galleries.

And it’s all within a short drive — Georgetown is about 15 minutes south of Pawleys and just 45-50 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. A great place for a day trip that will leave you far from the hustle and bustle of tourists at the beach.
