Established in 2007 as a sister bar to Island Bar and Grill near Surfside Beach, this location at the Village Shops in the Pawleys Island community is now its own animal under independent ownership and management. This is another one of the area’s hidden gems, and you might not know it’s there if you’re simply zipping up and down Ocean Highway.

Situated in the back corner of the Village Shops, a collection of businesses that almost resemble townhouses with white siding and red roofing, Island Bar and Grill features casual dining, live entertainment and a sports bar. There’s plenty of seating at the two bars flanking the downstairs indoor portion of Island Bar, but be forewarned it smells heavily of cigarette smoke, therefore many patrons prefer to grab a table on the spacious outdoor deck, which seats approximately 90, and is also where the performance stage is.

Upstairs, there’s a separate sports bar (with a full-stocked serving bar), wall-to-wall TVs to get your game on, a pool table, Golden Tee, and Silver Strike. There are more than 30 TVs throughout the establishment, and Island Bar carries most of the major sports packages.

Island Bar Pawleys serves typical pub grub (mozzarella sticks, burgers, sliders, sandwiches, nachos) but also offers a wide variety of lighter options, including wraps, salads, soups and quesadillas. The quesadillas aren’t your run-of-the-mill variety and include creative options such as the Rogman (blackened chicken, mixed cheese, grilled onions, red, green and banana peppers) and the San Padre (Montreal chicken, ham, bacon, cheese and tomatoes).

According to the establishment’s Web site, “Among our local favorites is the Pan Seared Sesame Tuna which is served on a bed of lettuce with our homemade soy ginger sauce and wasabi. Another favorite is our fresh grouper bites which are lightly hand breaded, grilled, or blackened, and are accompanied by a delicious Cajun remoulade sauce.”

If wings are your thing, you’re in the right place. Island Bar serves 30 flavors of chicken wings, from Caribbean Jerk to Sriracha Tangy to traditional Buffalo sauce, ranging from mild to nuclear. Boneless wings are an option, too. Menu prices are affordable and range from $9.95 to $14.95. There’s also a kids’ menu featuring grilled cheese, mac and cheese, mini-burgers and chicken fingers at $3.95 and a shrimp dish for $4.95.

Island Bar and Grill is open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
