Things to Do on the Georgetown Harborwalk

The Georgetown Harborwalk is a hidden gem located south of the Pawleys Island area. This attraction is situated along the water in historic Georgetown and is a quaint area that is home to shopping, dining, museums, tours, and much more.

Next time you’re in Pawleys Island, consider visiting the Georgetown Harborwalk and you will find these things to do:

Dining

The Georgetown Harborwalk and the surrounding area is home to several restaurants serving up a variety of cuisines such as Italian, Lowcountry cooking, seafood, and more. These range from upscale eateries to casual waterfront joints as well as quaint coffee cafes. The restaurants here include Fast & Fresh (deli); Root; Indigo Bakery; Graham’s Landing on Front (a local’s favorite); Atlantic House Restaurant (fresh local seafood); Old Fish House Restaurant aka Big Tuna Raw Bar; Buzz’s Roost; Coffee Break Café; The River Room Restaurant; Alfresco Georgetown Bar; Alfresco Taqueria & Cantina; Aunny’s; Castaways; Groucho’s Deli; Harvest Moon Ice Cream; Rollin Local (sushi & hibachi); Old Georgetown Creamery; Seven Hundred Modern Grill & Bar; Sweeties Chocolate; Thomas Café.

Directly on the Harborwalk, hungry visitors will find Castaway’s Bar & Grill – a local’s bar and grill offering casual eats like salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, baskets, and entrees like Smothered Grilled Chicken, Hamburger Steak, Shrimp, and Fish.

Another Harborwalk eatery is the Old Fish House Restaurant aka the Big Tuna Raw Bar. This is a favorite for locals and visitors for casual dining as well as a variety of refreshing beverages. Enjoy fresh local seafood, cold beer, burgers, steaks, chicken, and more along with beautiful waterfront views.

The River Room Restaurant, which is open Monday – Saturday and closed on Sunday, is home to an extensive wine list as well as a menu full of options. Guests will enjoy lunch & dinner menus with seafood selections as well as other dishes like Shepherd’s Pie, Cajun Gumbo, Fried Pork Chops, and more. 

For more of a fast, casual place to eat, visitors should check out Thomas Cafe. This quaint local favorite has been a landmark since 1929 and is known for serving up Lowcountry dishes for breakfast and lunch. 

Shopping

There are plenty of shops to visit on the Georgetown Harborwalk as well as across the street! Visitors will find a variety of stores featuring art, jewelry, clothes & accessories, décor, books, and much more! 

The Ship’s Booty is a fun little store located in the Fogel Mall that offers gifts, t-shirts, mugs, jewelry, and other great items that you can purchase for yourself or as souvenirs for your loved ones back home.

Ladies will love Head Over Heels Shoes and Accessories, which is a quaint shop featuring items such as ladies shoes, handbags, and accessories. Treat yourself to these items to show off during your Pawleys Island vacation!

Black Mingo Outfitters is the perfect place for those who like to fish! This cool store offers their own house brand, Black Mingo, from Georgetown, as well as other brands such as Vineyard Vines and Patagonia. 

Another shop to check out is Rice Bird, offering custom ceramics, glassware, dishes, purses, decorative pillows, and a variety of other Lowcountry gifts.

These are just a few of the shopping options along the Harborwalk. Shoppers, get ready to shop your heart out at these unique stores and more. 

History 

There are quite a few museums in historic Georgetown, but along the Georgetown Harborwalk guests will find the Kaminski House, which was built in 1769 and is filled with a large collection of American and English antiques. There is also the Rice Museum where guests will learn about the history of the rice crop in the Lowcountry. There South Carolina Martime Museum features exhibits dedicated to the history of South Carolina’s maritime history.

The surrounding area also boasts other historic attractions like the Georgetown County Museum, the Gullah Museum, the Bethel AME Church, the William Doyle Morgan House, the Stewart Parker House, and the Winyah Indigo Society Hall. 

Boating and Fishing

In addition to shopping, dining, and museums, the Georgetown Harborwalk also boasts a marina where visitors can enjoy boating and fishing. Those with their own boats may dock at the Harborwalk Marina for a fee, depending on how long the boat will be docked and how big the boat is. The Harborwalk Marina is the perfect place to dock for those who are cruising by and would like to stop and grab lunch or dinner along the Georgetown Harborwalk, or for those who are looking to stay the night in the area.

Those without their own boats may consider a boat tour or book a fishing charter with a company such as Georgetown Coastal Adventures. Georgetown Coastal Adventures offers offshore fishing, nearshore fishing, fly fishing, and more. Georgetown Fishing Charters also offers inshore and offshore fishing trips.

Tours 

Visitors at the Georgetown Harborwalk who are interested in taking a tour have quite a few choices. Cap’n Rod’s Lowcountry Tours offers Plantation River Tours, Shell Island Tours, Lighthouse Tours, and Evening Harbor Tours. Carolina Rover Boat Tours, Island Picnic Cruise, and Coastal Water Adventures offer similar tours as well.

Those who are looking for something unique to do in town may check out the Ghosts of Georgetown Lantern Tours. These tours highlight the history of Georgetown being an international port of entry since 1732 and all of the maritime ghost lore that goes hand in hand with the history of the area. 

Shows

Located just across the street from the Harborwalk is the Strand Theater. This cozy theater is home of the Swamp Fox Players, a group that performs plays and musicals all year long.
