Wedged between the more popular Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet, it’s easy for both visitors and residents to overlook Garden City Beach.

But TripAdvisor has been paying close attention, and recently named the family-oriented destination the No.1 “Destination on the Rise” in 2015.

“Garden City Beach is truly one of the Grand Strand’s hidden treasures, which is complemented by the friendly and inviting demeanor of the residents who call the area home,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “From the pier to the beautiful stretches of sandy beaches, there is much to see and do in Garden City.”

TripAdvisor’s editorial board focused their attention on booking increase, 5-star reviews, and the area’s laid back atmosphere, declaring that Garden City represents, “the stunning natural beauty that is Carolina’s coast.”

Just a 20-minute drive from Pawleys Island, Garden City is home to a “Best of the Beach” award-winning pier, a vibrant Fourth of July golf cart parade, the original Sam’s Corner restaurant, the Garden City Pavilion Arcade, Village Surf Shoppe, and several cafés, bars, and eateries. For lodging, plenty of condos and villas are available to vacationers, but it’s more common for families and groups to rent out the houses that line the beach and surrounding avenues.

Other destinations on TripAdvisor’s Top 10 this year included Gatlinburg, Tenn., The Adirondacks, N.Y., South Lake Tahoe, Cali., and St. Petersburg, Fla.
