Pawleys Island
Real Estate

In addition to being one of the most scenic areas in the country, Pawleys Island is also home to numerous award-winning restaurants, world-class golf courses, a wealth of outdoor activities, and a non-commercial, small-town atmosphere. So it’s no wonder that more and more people are thinking about relocating to the “arrogantly shabby,” community.

There’s a lot to consider if you’re looking to make the move, like which neighborhood best suits your needs and what kind of space you’re in the market for.

Like any other resort town, Pawleys Island is made up of several distinctive areas and communities, including Pawleys proper, Litchfield BeachMurrells Inlet, the gated Prince George community, the exclusive Debordieu Colony, Allston Plantation, Hagley Estates, and various golf course subdivisions at Pawleys PlantationRiver ClubTrue Blue, Heritage Plantation and others.

Residential options include everything from oceanfront homes with varying amounts of bedrooms and bathrooms to undeveloped lots on the mainland. For those looking for something smaller and more manageable, Pawleys Island has plenty of condominiums to choose from, with sizes ranging from 600 to 3,000 square feet.

Like they always say about real estate, location is definitely a high priority on the list of things to consider when searching for a new place to live. And once you’ve decided on Pawleys Island as your next destination, you’ll have an abundant amount of sites and settings to think about. And that’s part of the fun!

Search Georgetown Real Estate

The third oldest city in South Carolina, Georgetown is the county seat of Georgetown County. The city is within an hour’s drive of both Myrtle Beach and Charleston, each conveniently accessed by US 17, which also provides access to Interstate 95 via Highway 521. Georgetown is served by Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Myrtle Beach International (MYR) for commercial air travel.

Georgetown and the surrounding areas along the Atlantic shores are commonly referred to as the Lowcountry. Once a thriving waterfront center for trade, especially rice and indigo, Georgetown is the second largest seaport in the state. The city’s location on Winyah Bay provides a link to the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Black, Great Pee Dee, Waccamaw, and Sampit rivers. Lumber, steel, and paper mills along with commercial fishing still dominate the waterfront, while the shops, eateries, and community events celebrate the area’s nautical heritage along the River Walk and downtown.

Heritage tourism, defined by The National Trust for Historic Preservation as “traveling to experience the places, artifacts and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past” has become a primary industry in Georgetown, where many retirees and families opt to settle in alongside beaches, plantations, and a moderate, desirable climate.

Georgetown is also home to the state-of-the-art Georgetown Memorial Hospital facility, offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient services. Along with public elementary, middle, and high schools, Coastal Carolina University (CCU) operates a satellite location for marine science studies in Downtown Georgetown and community programs at the Georgetown Education Center. Horry-Georgetown Technical College maintains a location in town as well.

Search Murrells Inlet Real Estate

Murrells Inlet is an unincorporated area of northeastern Georgetown County along the Horry County border in South Carolina’s Lowcountry. US 17 provides direct access to Myrtle Beach and Georgetown, both within a half hour’s drive. The Highway 17 Bypass serves as the primary land route in the area, and home to golf courses, marinas, shops, and residential communities. Murrells Inlet is served by Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Myrtle Beach International (MYR) for commercial air travel.

Once primarily a fishing village, Murrells Inlet has long been an alluring settlement due to its wealth of natural resources. Covering a span that reaches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Waccamaw River, the land surrounding the inlet is lined with shell mounds and plantations. The waterways served as transportation corridors for boaters dating back to the 1800s, when steamboats provided lavish meals with scenic journeys.

Murrells Inlet has grown significantly since the days of the Waccamaw people. Today, it is a popular tourist and retirement destination. Its coastal locale still serves the modern industry as many of the famous steamboat chefs have taken to serving up regional cuisine in land-based eateries. It’s no wonder that Murrells Inlet is referred to as the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina”. Locals and visitors alike appreciate the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk (the centerpiece of Murrells Inlet), Brookgreen Gardens (the oldest and largest botanical garden on the East Coast), and Huntington Beach State Park. Murrells Inlet is part of the Georgetown County School District, with conveniently located public and private schools.

Pawleys Island

As part of South Carolina’s Grand Strand just south of Myrtle Beach, Pawley’s Island represents the casual, laid-back barrier island charm of the Carolina coast. Though shopping, dining, and amusement is all within easy reach, the island is largely undeveloped, with alluring natural landscapes. Pawleys Island is one of the oldest summer resorts on the East Coast.

Known for an artistic coastal culture, watersports, boat tours, fishing charters, shabby chic homes, historical landmarks, and natural beauty, Pawleys Island is home to the unique Hammock Shops, Pawleys Island Nature Park, and a handful of original art galleries.

The island is nestled along the Waccamaw Neck, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Waccamaw River, connected to the mainland by the North Causeway and the South Causeway. The Town of Pawleys Island is located just off US 17, approximately 10 miles east of Georgetown.
