So the story goes like this – back in the mid-1700’s a local pirate opened a place for traders and settlers to grab a cold drink and a bite to eat. The townspeople shortly took to calling this fellow “Buzz” because he was always drinking, and “buzzed.” His “Roost” was very popular and everything was going well until one day he drank too much beer in the morning, slipped off the dock, and was almost immediately eaten by alligators. Ouch!
Lucky for us, Buzz’s Roost still lives on, serving a variety of grub that ranges from pub-style to steak and pasta in a family-friendly, casual space on Georgetown’s Front Street.
The menu begins with Wings, available in orders of 10, 15, or 20 and covered in your choice of Mild, Medium, Hot, BBQ, Garlic Parmesan, or Teriyaki, and Boneless versions of the aforementioned are also an option.
Other than that, the list of starters includes Oysters (on the half shell or Rockefeller), Crab Balls, Calamari, Spinach Dip, Peel n’ Eat Shrimp, and something called Oyster Bar Trash which is a conglomeration of crab meat, oysters, shrimp, and fish nuggets blackened and served with rice.
For Sandwiches, guests can choose from highlights like the Buffalo Chicken Ranch, Shrimp or Catfish Po’ Boy, French Dip, Black and Bleu Ribeye Wrap, Prime Rib Sliders, and a fried, grilled, or blackened Grouper Sandwich, and each is served with fries.
Buzz’s also offers a nice selection of Salads that includes a House, Caesar, Wedge, Club, Cobb, and also a Pittsburgh (blackened steak, mushrooms, cheese, fries, and tater tots) and Taco Salad.
Those in the mood for a big, juicy burger can pick from the Buzz’s Burger (described as “belly busting” on their menu), Mushroom Swiss, Black n’ Blue, Smokehouse, Turkey, or Double Chili Dogs with cheese.
The Roost Favorites portion of the menu includes dishes like Blackened Chicken Tortellini, Cajun Shrimp & Chicken Pasta, Monterrey Chicken, Ribs (half or full rack), a 12oz Ribeye, Fish and Chips, Salmon Rockefeller, and Popcorn Shrimp.
There’s also a section of the menu called “Fill Ya Uppers,” which features things like Crab Cake or Chicken Finger Dinners, Fried Seafood Platters, and a Mixed Seafood Grill.
As for the atmosphere, the place is fun and casual – just the way old Buzz would’ve wanted it.
