This family-owned and operated eatery in North Litchfield prides itself on fresh seafood, house-aged steaks, and Lowcountry specialties with a home-cooked feel.

And in addition to their extensive list of dinner options, Hanser House also has Early Bird and Senior menus for those whose appetites and preferred dining hours have changed over the years.

There are some hearty items available on the list of Starters, including Homemade Onion Rings with jalapeno cream sauce, Buffalo Creek Shrimp, and Boneless Wings, as well as lighter fare like Steamed Shrimp, Crab Cakes, and Oysters on the Half Shell.

The From the Kettle menu features three family-recipe soups, including Pawleys Island Red Clam Chowder, Hanser Family She Crab Soup, and the oyster and cream-based Murrells Inlet Stew, each available in bowl or cup sizes.

Those in the mood for a sandwich can choose from an 8oz. Cheeseburger, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, or Seafood Sandwich with choice of a fried crab cake, fried flounder filet, or fried creek shrimp.

The two full menu pages of Entrees are divided into several sections based on preparation (Fried, Broiled, Grilled), origin (Land Lovers), and House favorites (Signature Items).

The first category essentially consists of Shrimp and Seafood Platters, cooked however you like and served with hushpuppies, a side, and choice of house salad or cole slaw.

The Land Lovers among us can choose from Chicken Tenders, Chicken Breast, Pork Chops, BBQ Ribs, or a Smothered Hamburger Steak. And the selection of hand-cut, char-grilled steaks includes an 8oz. Filet Mignon, 12oz. Ribeye, and 12oz New York Strip, with add-ons such as Lobster Tail, Crab Legs, Shrimp, Rack of Ribs, or Mushrooms and Onions.

Signature Items include Southern favorites like Shrimp n’ Grits, Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole, Stuffed Flounder, Seafood Fettucini, and Crabeye, which is a 12oz. Ribeye topped with a crab cake and seafood cream sauce.

Just as the name suggests, this restaurant is actually a house, or vice-versa. The interior is appropriately beach-themed, with fishing nets, oars, shells, and other coastal decorations adorning the walls. There’s also a nice, big bar area in case a short wait delays the seating of your party, which, if you don’t have a reservation during the busy months, it very well might.
