Serving breakfast and lunch from 6:30 am – 2:30 pm each day, this Commons Exchange Center pancake house offers all of the traditional dishes as well as several unique items.

The Breakfast menu begins with simple items like Grapefruit, Banana, and Assorted Cereals with milk, before moving into Traditional staples like One or Two Eggs with choice of meat, served alongside grits or home fries with buttered toast or a biscuit.

The lengthy list of Incredible Omelets includes such combinations as Da King (choice of cheese, onions, green peppers, ham, bacon, sausage), Southwestern (chorizo, peppers, onions, chilies, cheddar, with sour cream and picante), Seafood (crab, shrimp, salmon, fresh spinach, tomatoes, Swiss cheese, chipotle Hollandaise), and Grand Strand (Virginia ham, peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheddar), as well as a Create Your Own option.

Choices for Heavenly Pancakes are almost as many as the previous section, and includes standards like Buttermilk, Buckwheat, and Fruit flapjacks, and original creations like the Californian (raisins, pecans, almonds), Hawaii (pineapple compote, coconut, whipped cream, cherry) and Monkey Banana (peanut butter chips, sliced bananas).

Eggceptional options include Salmon Benedict, Eggs Florentine, Huevos Rancheros, Shrimp and Grits, and a Hash Royale (English muffin, corned beef hash, two poached eggs, Hollandaise, served with home fries or grits).

Waffles and French Toast are both available in the traditional way with fruit and/or choice of meat.

For something heartier, check out the available Sensational Skillets, made with home fries, your choice of meat and veggie combination, cheddar cheese, two fresh eggs, and an English muffin and fresh fruit.

It’s not all that common to Frittatas on area menus, but Applewood offers several, including an Italian (whipped eggs, sausage, mushrooms garlic, peppers, onions, diced tomatoes, parmesan) and Grecian (eggs, bacon, peppers, onions, olives, tomatoes, feta).

All of Applewood’s Crepes are sprinkled with powdered sugar and topped with whipped cream, and the options include Strawberry, Banana, Nutella, Blue Print (ricotta cheese, blueberry compote), Applewood (Granny apple-cinnamon compote), and Symphony (banana, strawberry, Nutella, topped with pecans, fruit, and chocolate).

For something more substantial, check out Classic Combos like the 6oz. Ribeye and Eggs, Virginia Ham Royals, or the Trashy Grits topped with scrambled eggs, peppers, bacon, sausage, onions, and cheddar cheese.

The lunch side of the menu is divided into Handcrafted Salads, Entrees, and Sandwiches.

Along with standard lettuce fare like the Greek, Caesar, Chef, Garden, and Cobb, Applewood also offers unique options like Rosemary Salmon, Cranberry Gorgonzola (grilled chicken, craisins, caramelized walnuts), and the California (over-roasted turkey, bacon, avocado, cheddar, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, choice of dressing).

Entrée standouts include the Smothered Chopped Steak, Seafood Crepes (crab, shrimp, mushrooms, onions, hollandaise), and the Gyro Platter (lamb, steak, tzatziki).

The Sandwich options cover pretty much all of the bases, including a Chicken Cordon Bleu, half-pound Applewood Burger, Chicken or Egg Salad Sandwich, All-American BLT, Shrimp Po’ Boy, Gyro, Crab Cake BLT, Steak Sandwich, Reuben, Philly Steak, and Tuna Temptation (housemade on a Kaiser roll).

From the parking lot, Applewood appears to be housed in a sterile sort of office park. But once inside, guests will find a cozy space with local art adorning the walls, plant-life lending an air of vibrancy, and a super-friendly staff. The apple-red theme extends itself to the chairs and booths, making for a comfortable place to enjoy a nice breakfast or lunch.
