January may be considered the off-season in Pawleys Island but that doesn't mean there isn't anything to do while you're in town. Brookgreen Gardens hosts a series of interesting tours through different areas of the grounds. Take a cruise up north for more events in the Myrtle Beach area.
Restaurant Week South Carolina will take place from January 11-21, 2018. Many Grand Strand restaurants are participating in this event, and will be offering discounts and specials throughout the week. Hop aboard the Trekker at Brookgreen Gardens for an exclusive look at the cemeteries along the back roads. Tickets are $15 for the two-hour excursion. Tours are held at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.More Details
The Children’s Discover Room at Brookgreen Gardens is the perfect place for kids ages 4-12 to learn about nature, history, and more. Kids will love the Dinosaur Dissection Lab, crafts, activities, and tons of fun. The discover room is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4:30 p.,. o the Wall Lowcountry Center.
From January 8- February 28, 2018, guests at Brookgreen Gardens can take a special tour on the back roads with an interpreter to hear about the history of the Alston family who used to live on the land. The tour will include a visit to the plantation house, the Alston family cemetery, the slave village, and more. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children in addition to regular park admission. “Come Ya, Bin Ya.” is a new exhibit at Brookgreen Gardens featuring art by Gullah, African Diaspora Artists, Lowcountry artists, and more. The exhibit is open daily from 12-4:30 p.m. in the Learning Lab I of the Wall Lowcountry Center from January 15 until March 18, 2018.More Details
Brookgreen Garden visitors age 12 and older are eligible to participate in a special program called Zookeeper for a Day. This program gives guests a firsthand look at working in a zoo, and allows guests to help zookeepers with their daily routines including cleaning, feeding, animal care, and more. The Georgetown County Young Professionals are hosting their annual Oyster Roast and Membership Drive again this year. On January 17, guests at this event can enjoy a night of networking, drinks, and delicious food.
