Pawleys Island, S.C., is located on the Waccamaw Neck, a peninsula that runs between the Atlantic Ocean and the Waccamaw River. The actual town is very small — about three miles wide with a population of just a couple hundred people — but a large, unincorporated portion of the mainland shares the Pawleys Island area name.
